10 Ways the workplace has changed and an info-graphic showing the new workstyle

Gone are the days when the fax machine was seen as a revolution and all you had on your desk was a rolodex and a telephone. Today’s real estate agent considers tools such as WebConnected with integrated Email Marketing techniques as essential in connecting with clients.

  1. Increased connectivity – With mobile phones that operate as mini computers, instant messaging and video conferencing all part of the real estate agent’s toolbox, we are more switched on and connected than ever – the trick is to know when to switch off!
  2. Working remotely – With employers recognising they get more from employees who have a good work/home life balance, the work from home trend has skyrocketed with an estimated 62% of agents already working from home regularly.
  3. Attitude shift – Today’s worker is always trying to find more productive ways to do the job and no longer sees the workplace as a place where they simply sign in and sign out at the end of the day.
  4. New technology – With 94% of all home buyers starting their search online, it’s a no brainer as to why new technology is so important to today’s real estate agent.
  5. Flexible hours – it’s not only employees that have changed, its employers too. Most employers now realise that a happy worker is a productive worker and that the normal 9-5 work day has been replaced with a more flexible approach.
  6. Social media networking – relationship building is essential to practicing real estate so it’s no wonder then that 84% of agents and brokers are using social media platforms to connect with people.
  7. Work practices – In response to the global financial crisis of 2008, employers made a conscious decision to make full time workers switch to part time instead of losing their jobs altogether. At the time this was seen as a necessary measure but has since proven popular among workers.
  8. Information access – Although experience in the industry speaks volumes about your working style, it is no longer necessary to know absolutely everything. With the volume of information available on the internet, the answers are always at your fingertips.
  9. Training – There are now a plethora of training methods available through a variety of delivery methods. Gone are the days when training would take a full week of your diary – these days training can be completed online where you log in and complete modules as time permits.
  10. Career change – Careers are no longer for life but for as long as you are happy within it. People are choosing to change careers at different stages of their lives ensuring the real estate industry has a constant influx of motivated learners with a diverse range of experiences.
